 Many Americans make monthly payments, called subscription fees, to receive services for movies, music, and even household goods. Now restaurants are hoping that consumers will do the same for their favorite food. Some offer unlimited desserts for a monthly fee; some will bring out your favorite snacks each time you visit. For example, St.Louis-based Panera offered unlimited coffee and tea to their members for $9 per month in early 2020. Customers started coming in several times a week, and about one-third of the time they bought food. Last year, Panera adjusted its subscription plan. Now, members can pay $12 per month for unlimited hot and cold drinks. Eduardo Luz, Panera's chief brand and concept officer, said members  made up as much as 25% of the chain's deals and believed it was a huge traffic driver. What it really achieves is getting customers in more often, which helps restaurants. However, not all subscription programs have had success. Queso Club provided free cheese snacks for a year for $5, but it couldn't make enough money to cover the cost. Now, the idea of subscriptions has spread to other countries. Pret A Manger launched its coffee subscription in Britain.
